Daniel Foxman - founding CEO
Dan grew up in rural upstate New York in the Catskill Mountains. Growing up in nature provided a framework that he was to fill in later in life. Dan’s first business was selling worms to fishermen on Sackett Lake, New York. He always jokes that he “started in worms.” At age 12, Dan began his own bait business, first going out at night to find night crawlers and later making his own worm beds.
Dan left New York for Hawaii immediately upon graduating from college in 1970. Attending graduate school in Hawaii, Dan lived and worked on an organic co-op “ Ohana Aloha” in Waimanalo, Hawaii. Here Dan cultivated his serious interest in organic farming and herbs. Among his business interests in Hawaii , Dan founded Pacific Freeze Dry Company where he was initiated in the freeze dry process. Although the main emphasis was on freeze drying flowers (much much more technically demanding than herbs) he worked as well freeze drying noni for medicinal purposes as well as papaya (for a cosmetic company). Dan received invaluable business experience as President of a large jewelry manufacturing company in Honolulu which he established in 1977 and is still going today.
Dan “retired” to Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2001. Within a six months of arriving in the “Rose of the North” in N. Thailand’s agricultural belt, Dan clearly decided that he must go into the freeze dry business with a focus on Thai herbs. While living in Chiang Mai, he was introduced to several amazing herbs that produced noticeable results within only weeks. This was quite surprising given the fact that he had studied, grown and used herbal remedies most of his life, none of which produced such dramatic changes this quickly. He later found out that these herbs were members of a unique and for him mysterious group of botanicals classified as adaptogens. That was all he needed to know. His plans for retirement “went to hell in a basket” as he took on the freeze dry herbal project based on its potential to help people live longer and more vital lives.
Dan married a lady from the Lisu Tribe in the remote tribal village of Doi Chang in 2002, in a ceremony that would have made his mother roll over in her grave – burning money, pounding the head on the ground, placating the spirits, and partying with the entire village for three full days and nights. Dan’s new in-laws were village elders and his new father was a tribal shaman. To call this “alternative medicine” would be a gross understatement. Dan learned the ways of the Lisu, developed a huge appreciation for their subjective sources of knowledge and was humbled by the amazing effectiveness of their treatments.
Dan created and established Thai Freeze Dry Company, in Chiang Mai (with factory in nearby Lamphun) which has been his passion to this date. In the process Dan, together with friend and Product Development Manager of Thai Freeze Dry, Bob Fickes wrote Adaptogens: Ancient Mysticism/Universal Intelligence/Quantum Field, a “must read” for anyone interested in making money for Dan and Bob.
