Each facial consists of two foil packets, one packet for each of two 15 minute treatments. Each packet contains the correct quantity and mixture of the components for one treatment. All you do is open the packet, add water, mix and apply.

STEP #1. “Thanakha” /Mangosteen Srcub

Thanakha” is a yellow poultice made from the bark and pulp of the thanakha tree found in Burma and Northern Thailand where it has been used as a skin care botanical for 1000 years to protect against UV radiation, remove facial wrinkles (dead cells) without loss of moisture, tighten skin, and absorb excess oils and impurities. The consistency makes this the perfect deep cleansing “scrub” for the first step of your Thai Spa Facial.

Freeze dried mangosteen rind (skin and pericarp), which has strong anti-inflammatory properties and has been used in Asia for centuries to restore and maintain good skin health, has been pre-mixed with the thanakha. It is astringent and increases cleansing and detoxification of the skin. The enzymes contained in the freeze dried mangosteen rind work to dissolve old dead skin cells that comprise wrinkles. Mangosteen pericarp has been used for centuries in S.E. Asia to heal rashes, cuts and is a traditional treatment for skin ailments such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, dermatitis, and other skin irritations and inflamed skin conditions.

The freeze dry process provides you with the full potency of Thailand’s ‘Queen of Fruits.

Directions: This scrub will cleanse, exfoliate and act as a natural detoxification agent. Mix the powder with a very small amount of water (just a few drops) to a consistency like thick mud. Apply generously to the face and neck massaging lightly with a circular motion and, let dry for 15 minutes. You can easily see by the color when it is fully dry. Wash off thoroughly with water.

STEP #2. Grey Thai Clay/Noni Mask

A more commonly available back clay is used in the most clay masks. However there is one and only one known source of grey clay in Thailand that is superior in its absorption capacity and detoxifying effects. The spas in and around Chiang Mai that have been lucky enough to have availability of this grey clay have abandoned using the black clay.

Mr. Bob Fickes of the Healing Rishi Spa in Chiang Mai has this to say:

“The grey clay found just north of Chiang Mai is easier to apply, smoother and is much easier to wash off when the treatment is completed compared to the French black clay commonly used in facials. Due to the fact that the absorption is better, it has a more effective detoxifying effect.”

The clay mask is taken to a new level with the addition of freeze dried noni fruit. Noni has been used for centuries throughout Asia and the Pacific Islands to provide a wide variety of health benefits including protecting, softening, and repairing the skin Phytochemicals in Noni enhance our ability to heal and rejuvenate skin tissue. The enzymes in Noni work to eliminate dead skin cells that comprise wrinkles. Note: It takes only a few drops of water to achieve the “mud like” thick mixture desired. However, if you add too much water don’t worry. You can leave the mixture sitting for a while to let some of the water evaporate or you can simply wait a few minutes longer for the mixture to dry once applied to the face and neck.
